Safety first — Medium risk

Battery cells and small glass parts. Disconnect power before working and never bend or puncture a cell.

Tools required

  • · Pentalobe P2 driver
  • · Tri-point Y000 driver
  • · Suction handle
  • · Plastic spudger
  • · ESD strap
  • · Tweezers

Parts required

  • · Power/volume flex cable
  • · Display adhesive
  • · Replacement screws

Diagnostic notes

Before opening: test with an external button trigger through the accessibility menu. If the device wakes on charger connect but not on the side button, the flex is the prime suspect. Measure dome continuity once open — 0 Ω on press confirms a good dome and points at the connector.

Repair steps

  1. 1

    Power down and discharge

Shut down fully, then discharge the battery below 25% to reduce thermal risk while working near the cell.

    Remove the two pentalobe screws

Remove the bottom-edge P2 screws and keep them on a magnetic mat in position order.

Step 6 saved me — I tested before adhesive and the dome wasn't seated. Would have redone the whole job.

Any torque figure for the flex bracket screws? I'm always nervous about stripping them.

Snug only — these are tiny. If your driver flexes, you've gone too far.
